Here's what our members thought of this product. 5 stars = very good, 1 star = poor.
Packed with stunning action scenes, amazing stunts and a fantastic cast, Ladder 49 is a thrilling and powerful tale about two Baltimore fire-fighters in an impressive drama featuring Hollywood heavyweights Joaquin Phoenix (The Village, Signs) and John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, Swordfish).
Ladder 49 is a gripping film that celebrates the ordinary man with extraordinary courage. The superb cast is led by Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Jack Morrison, a Baltimore fire-fighter working on Ladder 49 of the Baltimore fire department. He finds himself trapped on the 12th floor of a burning building. Having saved a man’s life, the floor caves in and Jack is left injured and semi conscious. Through a series of flashbacks we see his progress from rookie to seasoned veteran and gain an insight into the camaraderie that exists between himself and his fellow firemen.
John Travolta stars as the station Captain, Mike Kennedy, playing the perfect father figure with an affecting performance, while Jacinda Barrett (The Human Stain) is superb as Jack’s wife. The heroic supporting cast that form the tight knit group and fight fires side by side include Balthazar Getty, Robert Patrick and Morris Chestnut.
With spectacular fire scenes, heart felt performances and a scorching array of extras, Ladder 49 is not only a great action packed adventure, but also a fantastic character study into what makes every day men, every day heroes.
