Jack Lemmon stars in this comedy about getting old, but not accepting the golden years as a death sentence. That's not an attitude his character of Tom Gerrin shares at the beginning of the film, but when he crosses paths with a 20-something free spirit, the unlikely pair hit the road to escape the drudgery of their lives. While at different ends of the age spectrum, their contrasting personalities change each other's perspective on life's unpleasant twists and turns.
