Zeitgeist comedy starring Generation X pin-ups Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. Lelaina (Ryder), freshly graduated from college, decides to make a movie about the lives of her Twentysomething friends: slacker musician Troy (Hawke), Gap shop manager Vickie, and the sexually confused Sammy. When a smooth music video station executive (Ben Stiller) takes an interest in her, professionally and personally, Lelaina is forced to decide exactly what she wants from life.

As her college valesictorian, Lelaina Pierce ( Winona Rhyder) should be destined for greatness. In reality she is a lowly production assistant for an obnoxious TV morning show host ( John Mahoney). In her free time, Lelaina is making a biting, often outragous video documentary about her peers: Promiscuius, '70's-crazed roommate Vickie ( Janeane Garofalo ), sexually repressed sammy ( Steve Zahn) and best friend Tray ( Ethan Hawke), a brilliant but unmotivated rebel.
Meanwhile, Lelaina meets Micheal ( Ben Stiller ), and ambitious video executive who wants to showcase the documentary on "In Yor Face TV". Suddenly, she finds herself at the centre of a very odd love triangle with dependable, fasr-track Micheal on the one side and a sexy, Brooding Tray on the other.
