College professor Adam Evans (Anthony Hopkins), drowning in male menopause, has an affair with one of his students, Lindsay (Bo Derek). Karen (Shirley MacLaine), his wife, intially shocked decides not to get mad, but to get even, and takes a lover of her own, Pete (Michael Brandon). When the two couples decide to go for a winter break together to sort out their feelings the stage is set for hilarious misunderstandings especially after the unexpected arrival of Adam and Karen's daugther.
