Victor Hugo's classic story of triumph of good over evil which is set in France in 1796. Jean Valjean is sent to prison for five years for stealing a loaf of bread. In prison the Inspector Of Guards, Javert, takes an intense dislike to Jean and finds every reason to punish him and increase the term of his sentence. Jean eventually escapes but a few years later he comes face to face with his old enemy.
