Xenoblade Chronicles is a role-playing video game published developed by MonolithSoft (Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans) for the Nintendo Wii. The game attempts to convey the feeling of freedom through large, expansive environments.

In terms of combat there are both ‘Normal’ and ‘Special’ Attacks. The latter are known in game as ‘Arts’ and each one of these has has their own charge-up (or cool-down) time. Unlike normal attacks that can be queued up so that their use is automated, the ‘Arts’ are used manually when they become available to the player and character.

Each character has their own Art, these appear on screen in a Battle Palette. This shows in which order or combination that Arts can be deployed. The gamer can alter this order while not in battle.

Xenoblade Chronicles makes use of what is called the "Visions System”. This is where the main character in the game – Shulk – is able to see small snatches of future events which he must then attempt to stop occurring. Shulk is armed with the energy blade called Monado with which he must defeat the mechanical demons called Mechon which attacked his home in Colony 9.

The game comes with day and night time cycle, although the gamer can set the game clock to whatever time they wish in order to skip to it. There is also a Save Anytime feature as well as the ability to customise the way the characters look.
