Based on the Joyce’s Maynard novel, this quirky tale explores the nature of celebrity and the extraordinary lengths that one woman will go to get ahead and become a national celebrity. Fifteen minutes of fame would never be enough for Suzanne (Nicole Kidman). Married to a local restaurant owner, Larry Maretto (Matt Dillon), all she ever wanted was to be a high-flying anchor-woman on network TV. Blessed with more determination than ability, Suzanne plans her way to the top and will do absolutely anything to achieve her goals. As her ambition increases, her grip on reality starts to slide and she starts living in some kind of fantasy world where celebrity is the only benchmark of truth, and laid-back Larry no longer fits into her life. Suzanne seduces young junky Jimmy (Joaquin Phoenix), with a lure of sex so strong that he will do whatever she wants. But just how far will she go?
