Small time criminal, Billy Simpson, finds a way to make some money by managing his son Eddie who is an up and coming boxer. When the police turn up at Eddie's first prizefight events take a turn for the worse and as a result Eddie is shot dead. Now Billy must find out exactly what happened.

Michael Caine stars as Billy 'Shiner' Simpson, an East End boxing promoter with big ideas. Putting his own son Eddie 'Golden Boy' up against the American champion, he has gambled everything on the outcome. When Eddie loses and then is brutally murdered Shiner's world disintegrates. Distraught Billy begins a frantic search for the killer, but his past is catching up with him, and so are the police.

Former Coronation Street actor, Matthew Marsden, stars as Shiner's son, Eddie.
