Brenda Blethyn (Pride and Prejudice, Belonging) and Robert Daws (The Royal. Jeeves and
Wooster) return as the prim and precise Miriam and Roger Dervish. with Josie Lawrence
(Marple, Holby City) and Timothy Spall (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, The Street) as their bright. and
bohemian friends Maggie and Kevin Costello, This ratings-winning complete second serf
reunites the Costellos and Dervishes - as different as chalk and cheese but thrust together
through the men's love of cricket. As with the first series, the idyllic world of a
middle-England village cricket team is the very thin veneer atop a seedling hotbed of
emotion, laughter and one-upmanship, with Mim having to come to terms with Roger's
earlier infidelity, the team getting out of hand at a rather drunken barbecue and Roger having
to face mutiny from the ranks when his captaincy is challenged.
An immense ratings success and highly popular with the public, Outside Edge regularly
attracted an average of ten million viewers, winning "Best Comedy Drama" at the 1994 British
Comedy Awards, which also saw Brenda Blethyn winning "Best Comedy Actress". Richard
Harris won the Writers' Guild Award for best situation comedy.
