To sit in the "DOLI" — is every girl’s dream come true. But, from Asha’s (Babita) house, DOLI went empty. The bridegroom Amar (Rajesh Khanna) did not accept her. Bride’s pleadings were of no avail. Amar refused even to see her face. Thus, Asha’s dream was shattered. In course of time, they met again. Asha immediately recognized Amar... but Amar could not recognize her. Asha also did not reveal herself, deciding to tease and torment him..... Asha got the job as a secretary in an office whose Manager, Prem Kumar, (Prem Chopra) happened to be Amar’s College friend. Prem, who had returned after advanced studies from America, immediately fell in love with Asha. He never knew that Asha was the former discarded wife of his best friend, Amar, and Amar still loved her not knowing who she was. Prem, blindly in love with Asha, turned his own wife (Nazima) out of the house. When one day, Amar came to meet Asha in the office, he accidently met Prem. Prem gave a job to Amar in his own office. Closeness of Prem and Asha became a thorn in Amar’s side and Amar labelled Asha as unfaithful and deceitful. Asha enacted a drama to unite prem with his former wife, Shobha (Nazima). To be successful in this scheme, Asha had to go more close to Prem. Fed up, Amar resigned and threatened to take revenge from Prem. Prem got an inkling of Asha’s plan but at this stage Amar also came to know that Asha is innocent and not mad after Prem. Love for Asha again kindled in Amar’s heart........One night, Prem dragged Asha to her car, took her away to teach her a lesson for her deceit. Amar promised to save her at all costs. Prem and Asha were in a car, Amar followed them in his scooter, caught up with them and jumped in the running car. Both entangled with each other, thirsting for blood. Just when Amar was poised to kill Prem, his wife Shobha came in between and begged for his husband’s life. Amar let go of him.... Prem apologised and accepted his wife. But what happened to Asha? Why did Amar refuse to accept her as his wife? Was Asha’s dream fulfilled? Did she ultimately sit in "DOLI" and go to her Sasural? The answer to all these is Bahar Films Combined’s Eastman color Film "DOLI".
