Paul McGuigan's THE ACID HOUSE combines author-screenwriter Irvine Welsh's characteristicly fierce humor with touching drama, turning three short stories into one powerful, explicit, and savagely funny film. In The Granton Star Clause, a young football player (Stephen McCole) meets God--and his day gets worse from there. A Soft Touch stars Kevin McKidd as Johnny, a gentle young man who is pushed to the edge when his psychotic neighbor takes everything from him--including his wife. Finally, The Acid House stars Ewen Bremner as Coco, a ridiculous rave boy who has a bad trip and discovers his mind has been swapped with that of a newborn baby. McKidd and Bremner, both stars of TRAINSPOTTING (also based on a book by Welsh), are typically excellent.
