Robert Duvall heads the cast as Boss Spearman, who, along with his partner Charley Waite (Costner) and their two helpers, Mose (Abraham Benrubi) and Buttons (Diego Luna), has been leading a quiet nomadic life driving cattle across the plains for the last ten years. Their peaceful existence comes under threat when the local cattle rancher Baxter (Michael Gambon) suddenly warns the foursome to get off his land. Boss, already riled by Baxter's dirty dealings, decides to fight back, and the film climaxes in a dramatic gunfight between Boss and Charley and Baxter's hired gunmen.

No place to run. No reason to hide.
Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner jump into the saddle and head for the American West. Kevin Costner is no stranger to the vast landscape of the prairies, the saloon bars and the dust covered cowboy hat.
Having starred in Wyatt Earp and Silverado and directed the Oscar-winning Dances With Wolves, Costner now directs and stars in this action packed western.
Open Range delves deep into the end of an era in America where land was not owned. It follows a group of free grazers who spend their time driving cattle and living off the land on the Open Range - a place where there are no laws.
But then a ruthless rancher tries to run them out of town, introducing new laws and enforcing them, using brute force and scare tactics. It's up to the four men to fight this injustice and battle for a way of life that's fast disappearing.
Packed with epic action scenes and breathtaking scenery, this powerful story ends in one of the grittiest, most explosive gunfights on film.
While staying close to the themes of a classic western, with love, friendship, honour and justice, the characters rise above the cliches and stereotypes associated with this genre.
