In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch.

Film of 2012
In a year of many great films, the Hunger Games just tops Avengers for me to be the best of the year.
I was one of those who hadn't read the book first and went on a whim and loved it!
If you're a fan of franchises such as Harry Potter I think you'll like this.
After buying the DVD it got watched about 3 times in the first week!

Book vs Movie
When I first went to see this film in cinema, it was just after I had finished reading the books. I was glad to see that they had stuck to the books in most places and kept the film exciting and interesting, keeping the watcher on their toes. It was emotional but powerful and I am very excited for the next one. The acting was superb and the effects were most certainly different, but not over the top which was good for this type of movie.
