Jimmy Livingstone (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a teenager whose faulty immune system has caused him to spend his entire life inside a sealed plastic bubble. Unable to leave his house, Jimmy has conceived a great love for his next-door neighbour Chloe (Marley Shelton), and is shocked to hear that she is about to get married in Niagara Falls. The Bubble Boy then decides that he must declare his affections, quickly builds himself a portable bubble suit and heads out on an epic journey on the great American highway.
