The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
The Legend of Zelda is one of the most respected adventure game series of all time, and each new game brings a different experience. The last time we saw Link on the Nintendo DS he was seafaring around the world to rescue Tetra.
In Spirit Tracks, the primary mode of transportation is by train, which throws up new puzzle elements as you try to figure out the best way to your next destination. To get from one point to another, you have to plot a course and regulate your speed to avoid dynamic obstacles that are constantly moving around the world map. While travelling, Link can use an on-board cannon to destroy foes or blow the train’s whistle to scare curious animals away.
As well as new items and weapons to explore dungeons with, including a Whirlwind which activates on your blowing into the Nintendo DS microphone, Link has a companion aiding his quest to save Zelda from the spirit world. Known as a Phantom, this huge suit of armour can be ordered around to tackle situations that you cannot. Drawing a line on the touch screen will direct the Phantom through fire and across lava, and can carry Link away from harm’s way.
Whenever you get stuck, you can pull up a list of collected dungeon and world maps and scribble on them, just like in The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass. This lets you provide your own notes and hints for when you come across perilous obstacles. Now is the time to rescue Zelda. All aboard!
