In the town of Absolution, Arizona, in 1873, a spaceship arrives containing a crew of aliens intent on taking over the world, starting with the 'wild west'. A stranger (Daniel Craig) arrives in town and slowly comes to the realisation that he holds the key to defeating the invaders. He pulls together a crew of townsfolk including Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and an elusive traveller Ella (Olivia Wilde) in a desperate attempt to fight off the alien foe.
