Claire Spencer (Michelle Pfeiffer), has given up her successful career as a world class cellist to marry and bring up their child. Their daughter has finally left home to go to college and her husband Norman, (Harrison Ford) is reaching a crucial stage in his medical research. Claire now finds herself left all alone all day and most nights in their beautiful, secluded old house overlooking an unspoiled lake.

Claire soon begins to sense a presence in the building, all her friends and family think she's starting to crack up - but is she?

A spellbinding supernatural thriller, What Lies Beneath marks the first pairing of Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford, teaming them with Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis. This taut tale, which takes a number of surprising twists and turns, with a dash of sensual voyeurism thrown in for good measure really is "Hitchcockian". The atmospherics are slowly cranked up, a slow creaking door here and a  deathly still lake or forest shot there, really build up the tension.

The last twenty minutes is a breathtaking and wordless sequence of images making What Lies Beneath visual storytelling at nearly its most masterful.
When you watch it make sure you have someone to hang onto!
