Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, the highly anticipated film adaptation of the beloved literacy classic.
Written by creative genius Dr Seuss and published in 1957, The Cat In The Hat remains as one of the top ten best selling children’s books of all time. Now this timeless classic has been brought to life as a live action movie featuring an all star cast including Alec Baldwin, Kelly Preston and comic genius (Mike Myers) as The Cat.
The film throws you straight into the weird and wonderful world that organized sister Sally (Dakota Fanning), and messy brother Conrad (Spencer Breslin) live in. Told by their mother (Kelly Preston), that they must keep the house spotless, Sally and Conrad sit at home bored until a mischievous talking cat in a magical red and white hat arrives at their door.
The strange Cat wastes no time in cheering them up with his juggling antics but at the same time manages to lead them on a series of misadventures until things, or should I say Thing 1 and Thing 2, start to get out of control.
The zany special effects, dazzling stunts and modern jokes give this story a decidedly 21st Century spin – but director Bo Welch still holds onto the Seuss charm.
Although it was always going to be a challenge to adapt this short story for film, Mike Myers unrivalled comedic talent really does bring the furry Mary Poppins character to life. With especially strong performances from (Alec Baldwin) (Lawrence Quinn) and Will and Grace’s (Sean Hayes)(Mr Humberfloob/ The Fish), this is definitely not a film you will be forgetting in a hurry.
Here's a thing or two:
The Cat costume is made of Angora and human hair fitted with a cooling system. To keep Mike Myers cool during the outdoor shoots, a portable air conditioner was available that connected a hose to the suit between shots.
Mike Myer said that the Cat's personality is a complete composite of director/ producer Bruce Paltrow, his Saturday Night Live character Linda Richman and actor Charles Nelson Reilly.
Tim Allen was originally cast as the Cat, he pulled out to film Santa Clause 2.
