Gabriel Shear (Travolta) is a rich
playboy who can do anything he likes. But what he wants most is to raid
billions of dollars from a secret government bank account. But there's one
problem: the money is protected by the best computer security known to man. So,
to help him with his cyber-theft, he enlists the help of Stanley Jobson
(Jackman), a legendary hacker who has 'retired' after a period in jail. But are
Shear and his colleagues all they claim to be? And, more importantly, can
Stanley trust them?
From the producer who brought us The Matrix, and Dominic Sena, the director of
Gone In 60 Seconds, Swordfish wears its action heart very much on its sleeve. A
high-octane, testosterone-soaked slice of explosions and computer hacking,
rammed to the virtual hilt with thrilling car chases, out-of-control
pyrotechnics and choreographed gunplay.
Travolta gives another of his zany bad guy performances (as in Broken Arrow and
Face/
Off), while Hugh Jackman proves that he really does have star quality following
on from his charismatic performance as Wolverine in X-Men. If you're after
thrills and spills, this effects-heavy action-fest may be just the
ticket.
