Supernatural follows the adventures of two brothers – Sam and Dean Winchester (played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) as they travel through the States battling ghosts, demons and supernatural demons that would have most people running in the opposite direction.

The series opens twenty years ago. A woman stirs in her bed and realises her husband isn’t there. Going to look, she sees him hovering over the crib in the nursery, watching her son Sam sleep. She hears the TV on downstairs and goes down to switch it off, only to discover her husband asleep in an armchair. Panic stricken, she runs upstairs. A moment later, she screams. This wakes her husband John Winchester up who runs upstairs to find his wife stuck to the ceiling, covered in blood. He grabs Sam and older son Dean and the three escape as the house erupts into fire.

Obsessed with avenging his wife’s death by tracking down the demon that killed her; John Winchester raises his two sons alone, training them to fight evil supernatural forces. While Dean follows in his fathers footsteps, taking on the evil forces that are effecting the living, Sam rebels and wanting a normal life, goes away to college to get away to his family’s dark obsession and to become a lawyer.

When Dean turns up at Sam’s dorm unexpectedly and announces that their father has gone missing, the two boys hit the road to find him. Initially Sam is adamant that he is going to find his Dad and then he’s done but when a loved one is killed by the same demon that killed his mother… Sam decides to rejoin the family business.

Drawing from myths, legends and folklore, and created by the people that brought us Boogeyman, The X-Files and Millennium; Supernaural is a fast moving, exciting and entertaining series that is simply a joy to watch. The casting of the two brothers was inspired and the two of them are both entertaining and believable.
