| Sugar Rush – Series 2
By Angie Baker, Blockbuster.co.uk
Based on the novels of Julie Burchill, Sugar Rush is the store of Kim (Olivia Hallinan), a mixed up teen who (in the first series) was infatuated by her lesbian friend Sugar (Lenora Crichlow).
It is now 18 months on from the first series and Sugar has been sent to a young offenders institute. So what’s a girl to do when your best friend is banged up and you have you’re A-levels to study for…… you imagine yourself as living loud and proud on Brighton’s lesbian scene.
Kim’s brother Matt has gone Goth and her parents are back together, spicing up their sex life with swinging parties. All whilst coming to terms with the fact that Kim is a lesbian.
Kim visits Sugar in prison and after some blunt advice decides to do something about her sad social life. She is invited to a lesbian club by Saint (Sarah Jane Potts) a sex shop manager and part time DJ only to be ignored upon arrival. After some shenanigans with an older woman, Kim and Saint decide to start again.
Their relationship blossoms but not without the interruption and general disruption that Sugar brings in her wake.
Kim starts to go a little off the rails experimenting with drugs and drink showing a wild side to her that Sugar would be proud of. That is until her parents decide to rein her in; after all, she is still at school.
Sugar meets the man of her dreams and then breaks up with him. Kim’s parents are expecting.
By the end of the series, Saint has asked Kim to move in with her and Sugar has got her act together and has her own place……. Where will it all lead?
Each series of Sugar Rush just keeps getting better and better, with a querky social commentary and classic moments that never fail to make an impression. Imaginative and original, a must for fans of the show and anyone going through similar issues. Add to your list now!
