Holly Parker’s life was completely under control. She was living in a beautiful apartment with her best friend and colleague, Jan. Her relationship with her new boyfriend, David, was getting pretty serious. And, her promotion at the PR firm where she and Jan worked was all but in the bag. Life was good for Holly. And then Holly’s best friend seduced her boyfriend in an underhanded attempt to swipe the promotion out from under her. And in a matter of hours, Holly's perfect, controlled life had been completely shattered.

That's when she met, and moved in with, Tess Kositch, in her breathtaking rent-controlled Manhattan apartment. Tess was a troubled child, haunted by a high school suicide pact she was never able to carry through. The specter of this grim scenario has haunted Tess all her life, and in Holly's recent pain with Jan and David, as well as something more disturbing from her past, Tess sees a mirror into her own tormented soul. Tess and Holly become fast friends, and maybe, just maybe, Tess is the exact person Holly needed to meet to help her mend her wounds. But being friends with someone like Tess is never as easy at is seems.

When Holly eventually realizes Tess has all but taken over her life, things start to get ugly. Sweet, smart, shy little Tess becomes something altogether different. Unpredictable. Manipulative. Dangerous.
