Lee Holloway is a smart, quirky woman in her twenties who returns to her hometown in New Jersey after a brief stay in a mental hospital.

In search of relief from herself and her oppressive childhood environment, she starts to date a nerdy friend from high school and takes a job as a secretary in a local law firm.

Being a secretary in the modern workplace is demanding work!

Troubled twenty something Lee Holloway gets a job at a prestigious law firm, only to become embroiled in an unorthodox, sadomasochistic relationship with her enigmatic boss, Mr Grey.

From the opening scenes of Holloway (Gyllenhaal) performing regular office duties for Grey (Spader) in a bizarre S&M outfit, you know this surreal drama - always sensitively handled by director Steven Shainberg - is going to challenge and entertain.

Both leads are superb as the lovers drawn to express themselves in a subtle game of playful domination and submission, and Gyllenhaal is particularly good as the vulnerable Holloway.

Spader, of course, is no stranger to taking on such challenging roles, having also starred in the controversial Crash back in 1996.
