CIA chief Walter Burke (Pacino) recruits James Clayton (Farrell), an edgy computer genius, to The Agency and takes him to 'The Farm' - the secret training ground for gifted new operatives. Clayton, an ambitious maverick, soon finds himself being tested by Burke, as the ageing mentor ruthlessly attempts to find his protege's limits.
