Uma Thurman,
Meryl Streep and Brian Greenberg star in this clever romantic comedy from writer / director Tom Younger. They say that age is just a number, so what happens when a 37-year-old woman falls for a man 14 years her junior? Both are in their sexual prime but is that enough? A hilarious, irreverent comedy of errors about falling in love that proves love is the easy part. Romeo and Juliet had nothing on these two age-crossed lovers!
Set against the colourful, bustling backdrop of modern-day Manhattan, PRIME takes you on a highly entertaining romp through the trials and tribulations of two mismatched lovers. Rafi (Thurman) is a 37-year-old photography producer reeling from a recent divorce who meets David (Greenberg), a 23-year-old painter just out of college. There is an instant attraction but Rafi and David must contend with a 14-year age gap, vastly different backgrounds and the demands of David’s traditional mother, Dr Lisa Metzger (Streep), who also happens to be Rafi’s therapist, much to everyone’s surprise.
“Did you ever think I would have been so satisfied sexually?” - Rafi
“No, no, no, no, no, not like this” - Dr Lisa Metzger
Prime is very refreshing – without revealing the ending, unlike most romantic comedies, this film doesn’t pull any punches and for one of the first times on film, Prime actually shows a relationship like it is. While Uma Thurman is very good and Brian Greenberg proves that he is more than a pretty face, Meryl Streep is the true star of this film. Streep shines in every scene as her character is torn between her duty to her patient and her instincts as a traditional Jewish mother which is at often funny as she tries to stop them uncovering the truth about her involvement and also quite touching. She really appears to care for her patient.
The Verdict:
Finally, a romantic comedy which is both fun and serious. Add to your list now. Good stuff!
