Title Information
Orchestra Seats (subtitled)
By David Hayter, Blockbuster.co.uk
Directed by Danièle Thompson, this multi-character comedy provides some light relief from a lot of the heavier titles that have been churning out recently. Even though it’s a French movie and the beautiful Eiffel tower can often be seen looming in the background, at its core it has a sweet story that could take place in any city in the world.
We follow a young woman named Jessica (Cecile de France) as she leaves Macon in the French countryside and follows her grandmother's footsteps to the Paris. With no idea of what to do or where to stay she ventures out into the city of romance and manages to get herself a job as a waitress in a bar in the theatre district.
It’s not long before she is friends with a whole host of new characters including Catherine - an actress on a popular TV soap opera, Jean-François - a world-renowned pianist and Jacques who is an art collector. All three are about to face major turning points in their lives on the same night, with Jessica involved in all three.
This film has a very charming and optimistic quality that puts it above some of the other French romantic films I’ve seen of late. It’s a nice dictation of how we would like life to be, but probably wont ever get the chance to experience. I guess what your really seeing a slice of someone’s life with eloquent and cute surroundings and if your just looking to have a French Croissant and a hot cappuccino watch a good drama then this is the perfect side order.
