The Mythic guitar slinging hero returns in the final instalment of Robert Rodriguez's Western epic.
Ever since the bullets started flying in 1992's El Mariachi and continued in 1995's Desperado, Rodriguez's trilogy has had a cult following.
While paying homage to the spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone, this closing chapter blends Tarantino-style features with big budget action scenes to deliver a movie with substance. We rejoin El Mariachi when he is forced out of retirement by the corrupt CIA agent Sands (Johnny Depp), who asks him to sabotage an assassination plot against the President of Mexico. When the Mariachi discovers that General Marquez is in love with his wife (Salma Hayek) - is behind the plot, the reclusive hero uses this opportunity to settle an old score.
Set against a backdrop of revenge, this adventure reaches new heights of excitement along with a mixture of humour, violence and drama.
Depp illuminates every scene with his charisma and the smouldering Banderas is every bit the unconventional action hero. Also look out for the mysterious Mickey Rourke in one of his first roles since his return to Hollywood.
With Robert Rodriguez's trademark rough and ready style, this is the perfect ending to a great trilogy.
