Nacho Libre
By Ian Leigh, Blockbuster.co.uk
“Precious Father, why have you given me this desire to wrestle and then made me such a stinky warrior?”
Director Jared Hess, fresh from the success of Napoleon Dynamite, delights us again with his latest rib-tickler “Nacho Libre” Showcasing the ultra-sharp comedic talents of Jack Black, this movie is just as funny and just as unique as his first film.
Black plays Brother Ignacio, a monk-in-training at a Mexican Orphanage where he works as a cook… we like it already. Brother Ignacio’s true passion is wrestling and the glamorous stars of the Lucha Libre ring so he begins a secret career as a masked wrestler. Of course he has to hide it from his fellow monks and the woman he loves, Sister Encarnacion (Ana De La Reguera)
The orphaned kids he cares for are aware of his alter ego since the money he wins in amateur wrestling matches allows everyone at the monastery to eat better. But how long can he keep it a secret from his monks and how successful will he be in his dangerous new carer?
All of this forms part of a great formula and an excellent canvass for Jack Black to do what he does best. It’s something that pretty much the whole family can enjoy from start to finish. A definite must see. Add it to your list now.
