The Castle is a maximum-security
military prison and is General Irwin's (Robert Redford) unlikely last stop in a
brilliant career.
Court-martialed, stripped of his rank, and sentenced to imprisonment at The
Castle, Irwin's defiance and confrontation evoke respect and then resentment
and hostility from warden Colonel Winter (James Gandolfini), who runs the
prison with an iron fist.
Setting out to break Irwin by whatever means necessary, the colonel's tactics
only fuel Irwin's rebellion and galvanise the other prisoners to rally behind
the general in his new mission: to seize control of the prison and remove
Winter from his command.
The men imprisoned in The Castle have been told they are no longer soldiers ...
but are about to prove they can still fight a war.
