| Imagine me and you
By Cory Peynado, Blcokbuster.co.uk
“There goes the bride” – A more than fitting tagline for this distinctive romance comedy in which a bride-to-be manages to fall in love with a woman… on her wedding day.
Oliver Parker directs a charming tale about the curious nature of love and the consequences of letting it consume you. Taking just a tiny step beyond the usual romantic comedy this film shows us what it can be like to experience a hidden fantasy… in front of everyone you know!
The formula for romantic comedies seems to be pretty straightforward these days, the characters are set, the story is structured in that familiar Hollywood way, no surprises, no risks, everybody’s happy. This is where the film makes its attempt to stand out and it does so with great success. Heck (
Matthew Goode) and Rachel (
Piper Perabo) are a happy young couple about to tie the knot and spend the rest of their lives together. But at the church, Rachel catches the wistful eye of an unexpected female guest.
The look they share between them is more than just a look, its something that they both recognise and its one that they both cannot ignore. This is where the power of the films dreamy title kicks in. Rachel now has to face up to that old passing fantasy that she’s always had and make a decision that could cost her the relationship she has spent so long trying to build. Rachel and Luce (
Lena Headey) realise that they will have to face everyone they love and everyone they care about and explain their actions but as we know when ever we want to follow our heart, things are never easy.
We are all familiar with the fact that sometimes a feel good movie can be exactly what the doctor ordered. The characters are well structured and the performances are solid throughout. It’s great to see that British films are still running the show when it comes to romantic comedy and when we get one with as much daring and as much charm as this then we only succeed in upping the ante.
