House - Season 3 - Part 1
House: Season 3
By Cory Peynado, Blockbuster.co.uk

“Like I always say, there's no "I" in team. There's a "me" though, if you jumble it up.”

Dr. Gregory House is a brilliant man; his encyclopaedic knowledge of medicine has helped hundreds of patients to overcome things they never thought they could… only problem is that to do these things, he uses the most sporadic and bafflingly unorthodox methods you could think of. They say genius is linked to madness – a wild and torrid accusation you might say, but every now and then you come across a character that really makes you think twice.

Being a bit of a fan of Hugh Laurie, I was really enthusiastic when I first heard about this series. Despite sporting an unfamiliar American accent he is perfectly cast in this role as head of diagnostics at a Princeton hospital. To say he is complicated is a bit of an understatement. He’s rude, arrogant, sarcastic and insulting; not just to his co-workers but to his patients also, and yet he still manages to exude enough charm and intelligence to make him a very likeable character.

Taking on only the most obscure and enigmatic cases, House works with his team of three to solve the problems that a lot of Doctors could not deal with. This will usually involve people with unexplained symptoms or irregular diseases that are looking for some sort of cure or diagnoses. If it’s interesting enough for him, House will step in and try to evaluate what the problem is and how he can solve it.

Unfortunately this has involved breaking into patients houses to find clues, putting patients to sleep so he can carry out further procedures and even tricking patients into operations – not without reason though as, strangely enough, this often proves to be the correct path to have taken. The first two seasons of the show introduced us to some of these eccentric methods and also gave us some information about the failure of Houses’ marriage and how his outlook on life has affected his profession.

This brilliant new third season takes a closer look at Houses’ own disability (previously he has needed a cane to walk) and his attempts at overcoming this, both mentally and physically. Also we get the chance to see how far House and his team are willing to go when it comes to finding their answers.

This is thought provoking television. While being intelligent enough to stimulate most medical minds it still carries the right amount of humour, wit and intrigue to convince even the most critical of tv viewers. Co-stars Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer also stand out in their roles as Doctors, providing enjoyable and convincing performances throughout the whole series. ER fans should see this as a necessity, it doesn’t disappoint, and Hugh Laurie fans should already be on-board!
