Hollow man is an unusual drama which spotlights a brilliant but arrogant scientist Sebastian Caine, (Kevin Bacon) who leads a top secret US government research project to unlock the secret of invisibility. When the formula works successfully on animals an ecstatic Caine recklessly disobeys Pentagon orders and experiments on himself. Unfortunately the gamble goes terribly wrong and his co-workers reveal that they can't make him reappear. Caine works with his chief scientists Linda McKay (Elizabeth Shue) and Matt Kensington (Josh Brolin) to reverse the process but to no avail. It's not long before Caine begins to loose his mind as well as his body as he becomes intoxicated with his newfound power. The secret laboratory becomes a house divided as the scientists realise their leader perceives them as a threat to his very existence! Violent, gruesome and filled with eye-popping visual effects this was never going to be a subtle film and after Sebastian goes mad delves straight into twisted, erotic mayhem, with elements of voyeurism, sexual harassment and lots of bloodshed. Paul Verhoeven, the director, asks one simple question: if a man became invisible, wouldn't he see how far he could go and how bad he could be if he could get away with it?
