| | Rob Gordon is the owner of a semi-failing record store located on one of the back streets of Chicago. He sells the old-fashioned way, on single, with his two clerks - the hysterically funny rock snob Barry and the more quietly opinionated underachiver Dick. But Rob's business isn't the only thing in his life that's floundering - his needle skips the love groove when his longtime girlfriend Laura walks out on him. And this forces him to examine his past failed attempts at romance the only way he knows how...

Based on the novel by Nick Hornby this biting, romantic comedy sees Rob Gordon
(John Cusack) as the owner of a semi-failing record store in Chicago, where he
sells music the old-fashioned way - on vinyl.
He's a self-professed music junkie who spends his days at Championship Vinyl
with his two employees, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black).
|
|
Unfortunately he spends more time in his store than
with his girlfriend and when Laura (Iben
Hjejle), his long time girlfriend walks out on him
he realises that he wants her back.
|
As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, the process finds
him being dragged, kicking and screaming, into adulthood. He tries to cut
himself off from the world by loosing himself in his world of music, but he's
making it even harder for himself. His
staff, Dick and Barry, try to help Rob's general air of lovelorn depression
with their total "geekiness" in the world of music but to no avail.
Cusack's performance is brilliant, with the sharp acting and the genuinely
insightful and often very funny script the film really is a cracking comedy.
