Hannah (Mia Farrow) is happy and successful, and so her two sisters, Lee (Barbara Hershey) and Holly (Dianne Wiest), constantly look to her for emotional and financial support. However, the sisters and their respective partners are soon entwined in a way that becomes almost too claustrophobic and destructive for all of them.

Allen won an Oscar for Best Screenplay, Wiest won for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Michael Caine - who plays Hannah's cheating husband - won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

This movie about Manhattanites and their failing marriages, also starring Carrie Fisher, Max Von Sydow and Allen himself, is considered a benchmark in Allen's career.
