Title Information
Grizzly Man is an extrodinary docu-drama following the final summers that Timothy Treadwell spent living among wild grizzly bears in Alaska's Katmai National Park and Reserve.
Some called him courageous others crazy, but whichever Treadwell truly was he was definitely an exceptional man who truly believed in the cause that he fought for. For this reason it is no surprise that he has been an inspiration to many.
Acclaimed director Werner Herzog explores both the life and death of Treadwell who lived unarmed and unafraid among untamed grizzly bears for thirteen summers, the last five of which he recorded. He captured some amazing and eye opening recordings of himself and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, living among these huge and powerful beasts. Sadly in 2003 the remains of both Treadwell and his beloved Huguenard were discovered near their campsite in the Alaskan Nation Park having been killed and part devoured by a large grizzly bear.
Herzog uses Treadwells compelling own footage to paint a portrait of the man himself, his ideals and his unwavering love for the Grizzlies while managing to address wider issues of the nature of both man and beast and the relationships between the two. This film is more than a documentary about bears, it is an inspirational docu-drama that should leave us all wishing we cared as much about something in our lives as Treadwell did about the great Grizzly Bear.
