Title Information

Family Man, The
High powered Wall Street investment banker, Jack Campbell is at the top of his profession, and he has the luxurious lifestyle to prove it. Life is just about perfect; that is until one snowy Christmas Eve night when Jack unwittingly stumbles into the middle of a grocery store hold-up and in a bold display of self-preservation disarms the gunman. The next morning is Christmas but instead of camly waking up in his beautiful penthouse apartment, Jack wakes up because a couple of kids are bouncing on his bed. He is in suburban New Jersey, lying next to his college sweetheart, Kate Reynolds, who he left 13 years ago in order to pursue his high-finance career. A confused and horrified Jack runs out of the bedroom and speeds back to Manhattan. A disconcerting visit to his apartment and office building confirm the worst - his former life no longer exists...

It's Christmas eve and bachelor Jack Campbell (Nicolas Cage), heads off to bed, a high-powered Wall Street banker brought up on a diet of fast cars and fast women. But by Christmas morning he's changed into the man he would've been had he chosen a different path in life. Married to college sweetheart Kate, (Tea Leoni), Jack now has two kids, works as an auto supplies salesman - and is floundering in a world he doesn't understand.

Exploiting a favourite sci-fi staple - the parallel lifelines story - Family Man directed by Rush Hour helmer Brett Ratner, joins the likes of Sliding Doors and Run Lola Run, and is a classy feel-good movie that makes full use of Cage's talents.

Struggling to come to terms with this alternative blue collar existence, Jack's response to his predicament slowly changes from dismay to joy as the pleasures of his new life take hold.

Cage handles the transformation brilliantly, and there's plenty of humour to be had watching him changing nappies and looking horrified at the polyester shirts in his wardrobe. An enjoyable family-orientated romantic comedy.

Family Man is released to rent on 2nd July 2001 - Warner Bros
