EdTv
follows a cinematic path of video store clerk Ed Pekurny (Matthew McConaughey) who is plucked from obscurity by down-on-her-luck TV Exec Cynthia Topping, (Ellen DeGeneres). She signs him up for the ultimate fly-on-the-wall docu-drama to see what would happen if you broadcast somebody's life all day every day.

The tv ratings soon begin to pick up as Ed begins a relationship with Shari, (Jenna Elfman), who was Ray's, Ed's brother, (Woody Harrelson), latest girlfriend.
Ed enjoys his celebrity attention and new found hype but his friends and family soon begin to crack under the camera's harsh glare as their own problems are broadcast to the ever growing gossip hungry audience.

EdTv goes for realism rather than a fairy tale angle and has a great cast and script with plenty of humorous moments. Ed's life becomes the property of the masses: chat shows criticise his decisions, fans begin to pick and choose which "characters" they love and loathe and Ed lives out his every day life in this slick docu-soap.

This excellent movie was made for $60million and blurs the lines between reality and televisual fantasy to give "A sharp, smart tirade against American trash TV" as Total Film says.
