To the kids, it's Christmas come early, and soon Santa's literally stopping the traffic as people flock to meet the jolly old gent as he dispenses both good cheer and good deals. But not everyone is so enthusiastic. The police for start, who arrest him on various minor violations, and ambitious town attorney and single mother Elizabeth Gates (Shelley Long), a woman who harbours a strange hostility to Santa. But she has her reasons - deep, personal reasons. And as Santa gets in the way of her career ambitions and threatens the happy relationship Elizabeth has with her young son, Tommy, matters reach crisis point - until Frank Mallory (Barry Bostwick), a local journalist and the only man who dares to stand up to the spiky Elizabeth, encourages a resolution.
