It's 19th century China, and disillusioned Li Mu Bai (Yun-Fat), the Qing dynasty's most skilled warrior, tells the

equally fearless swordsman Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) that he's killed too many people with his famous sword, Green Destiny. Tortured by his undeclared love for her, Li entrusts Ye with delivering his precious weapon to Sir Te in Beijing. But when the sword goes missing, Yu suspects that the beautiful young female aristocrat Jen might be responsible and sets out to investigate.

So close to perfection, it takes your breath away, Crouching Tiger is an awesome achievement that deservedly swept a clutch of Oscars earlier this year, (2001). Director Ang Lee tells this charged tale of love, rivalries and power with enormous intelligence and a superb cinematic eye, smoothly guiding the action towards a dizzying and epic climax. The result is a film that combines exceptional acting, an intelligent and powerful story and staggering gravity-defying martial art set pieces to astonishing effect.
