| The Covenant
By Roger Townsend, Blockbuster.co.uk
“Harry Potter can kiss my ass”
Where have all the cool films gone? It feels like its been ages since we’ve had a really slick movie hit our streets. Seems like those hi-tech special effects companies have been spending all they’re time on summer blockbusters and nothing else… but maybe not. Maybe the latest offering from the acclaimed director of The Long Kiss Goodnight has something to bring to the table.
His new film ‘The Covenant’ is set at the prestigious Spenser Academy, a prep school in New England. There, we meet our four young stars, Caleb Danvers (Steven Strait), Pogue Parry (Taylor Kitsch), Tyler Sims (Chace Crawford), and Reid Garwin (Toby Hemingway). These four guys are known as the “Sons of Ipswich” referring to them being descendants of the oldest families in the area.
They are all also very powerful warlocks... (As you’d expect) and they have strong supernatural powers, but once they reach their 18th birthday, they will ascend and be granted their full powers. However, there’s a catch, the more they use their powers after ascension, the faster they will age.
If you’re a fan of Buffy or Angel then this is basically the next step up. Fans of the teen-supernatural theme will be thoroughly entertained throughout. Its great to see a fresh horror title with this much effort put into its visual style. Definitely one to watch when your tired of being just human.
