Jean-Luc (Charles Berling), a highly successful doctor, thinks that he has forgotten his father. A father who left so long ago and who has been in touch so rarely. It's as if memory - or resentment - were a waste of time. But all of a sudden, Maurice (Michel Bouquet) reappears from his long exile. He displays no remorse. Without any apparent misgivings, he tries to re-enter his children's lives. He views Jean-Luc's life and world with a detachment that verges on cruelty. He judges the bourgeois life that Jean-Luc has chosen for himself. By what right? In the face of this father who charms, disgusts and rejects him, Jean-Luc can no longer avoid confronting his own past.
