Successful lawyer Gavin Banek (Ben Affleck) and insurance salesman Doyle Gipson
(Samuel L. Jackson) are both on their way to court - Banek to an important
probate case and Gipson to a hearing concerning his estranged wife and their
children - when they crash into each other's cars.
The delay means Banek has to leave the scene of the accident, but in his haste,
he leaves behind some vital documents.
Gipson has been stranded by the crash and will miss his court appointment,
meaning he may lose custody of his children. He holds Banek responsible and,
with the lawyer's documents in his possession, has the means at his disposal to
make him put things right...
