After signing her divorce papers, Maddie Parker (JoBeth Williams) bundles her two daughters into the car and together with her sister, sets off for Minnesota airport where she plans to catch a flight to visit her mother. On arrival she discovers that her sportswriter husband, Matt (Michael Ontkean), had similar plans when he too appears at the airport with the intention of flying to Miami to stay with his father. When a blizzard strikes, the two are trapped. Instead of killing time, they wisely accept the advice from an older couple and re-evaluate their relationship.
