| | After teenager Pattie Bates is knocked-down by a hit-and-run driver, she returns from hospital unable speak or look after herself, completely dependent on her parents Tom and Amy. Michael Kitchen plays Martin, an odd young man who says he's an old friend of Pattie's and would like to look after her. But they soon begin to wonder if he's really the good samaritan he seemed to be, and their worst fears are realised when Pattie is raped. Recorded by the BBC in 1976, this adaptation of Dennis Potter's BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE was not orignally shown due to the Director of Programmes' reservations. In 1987 an edited version finally made it to the small screen, and remained powerful and shocking.
