The Best Man
By Ross Forbes, Blockbuster.co.uk
Some films you know how they will end as soon you watch the trailer, or even as soon as you have read the title. Some films just have that forgone conclusion, but despite the fact that you can see the end running at you a mile away you are still happy to sit along and enjoy the ride.
The Best Man is one of those films. Stuart Townsend plays Ollie Pickering; a down on his luck author that has writers block the size of which could sink the Titanic. He is invited by his old college friend to be his best man at his wedding. At a party to mark the up coming occasion he meets Sarah Barker (Amy Smart) and sparks fly, in fact they get on a little too well… and of course she turns out to be the bride to be.
Ollie is urged on by Murray (Seth Green) to act on his impulse and tell Sarah how he feels about her. But of course he is torn between his love for Sarah and his loyalty to his friend, but is his friend loyal to his bride to be?
Even though the plot to the film isn’t that original, the ride is the important thing. Director Stefan Schwartz has realised that he is not breaking new ground so he has filled this film out with great characters that you can really feel for; they are not the usual cardboard cut out stereotypes that normally wander around in romance movies. Listening to Seth Green speaking in a cockney accent is worth the price of rental alone.
