When Private Detective Harry Angel (Rourke) is hired to track down a missing singer by the wealthy but mysterious Louis Cypher (De Niro), he is forced to up his fee when what seems like a routine search for a missing personl dramatically develops into the hunt for a killer. As every lead he chases becomes a victim of a ritualistic murder, Harry begins to put together the pieces of the jigsaw, and he soon realises that the nightmare has only just begun.
