Say their names with pride: Arnie, Sly, Clint, Chuck and Bruce (more Lee than Willis though Die Hard is the greatest action movie ever made). These guys got busy. When heads needed busting they were the first to volunteer, and the practice made them perfect. Not everyone can kill, maim, destroy, make a joke about it afterwards then end up in the sack with a beautiful floozy. Some people can’t even kill. It takes time and practice to single-handedly take down a crooked sheriff, drug lord, terrorist, psycho or super villain. And screaming stripper girlfriends don’t just save themselves. Back in the Eighties, they really knew how to make action movies. And thanks to the efforts of fine fighting folk like Vin Diesel and The Rock, the spirit of unrepentant action adventure is alive and well in the Noughties.
