The first Blockbuster store in the UK opened in March 1989 (Walworth Road, London); there are more than 250 stores across the UK along with blockbuster.co.uk, the Blockbuster Marketplace and a substantial Facebook community.
Blockbuster's goal is to be the destination of choice for movies, games and home entertainment both in-store and online. Continually innovating and adapting to customer needs to offer Blockbuster members more value, choice and convenience.
Blockbuster UK is no longer just a video rental store. Rental is the core strength of the business, but there are also retail propositions for movies, games, drinks and confectionery.
Trade-In is something that really sets Blockbuster UK stores apart from other competitors. Customers can trade-in movies and games for cash or credit on their membership accounts. Trade-In is perfect for those spring cleaning moments when refining your DVD collection, or even just when you need a little extra cash!
Blockbuster UK also sells movies and games, both new and pre-owned titles, meaning that again you can often find more than the latest releases and maybe even some hidden treasures. Blockbuster UK also regularly boasts exclusive movies that are available ahead of competitors and can't be rented or purchased anywhere else. Most movies in-store are available up to a year ahead of Netflix, LOVEFiLM Instant or other streaming services.
For many people a 'Great Night In' is sitting down with friends and family to enjoy a movie and indulge themselves with a choice of their favourite chocolates, snacks or ice cream treats. Blockbuster UK provides all the elements of a 'Great Night In' under one roof.
Blockbuster UK continues to evolve and innovate, launching a Special Order service in stores in 2009 that lets all customers order anything listed from Blockbuster's online website for delivery to their local BLOCKBUSTER store, a FREE Click & Collect rental reservation service in 2010 and Click & Collect for products to buy in 2013.

Launched in 1996, and relaunched many times since… blockbuster.co.uk is the destination of choice for movie and game fans in the UK and provides visitors with an effortless and convenient way to rent and buy movies and games from the comfort of their own home.
A major part of the blockbuster.co.uk is Blockbuster’s award winning Blockbuster By Post, Online Rental Service. Blockbuster UK was a pioneer of online rental in the UK, launching in 2002 with a Blockbuster By Post service with the service continuing to evolve and innovate ever since.
At Blockbuster By Post, our customers come first. Blockbuster By Post is the only By Post movie & game service to allow customers to list in number order, what they would like to receive next – moving away from the high-medium-low priorities of other online services so customers can be clear about what they really want, and whether Blockbuster By Post delivers for them.
But in addition, what makes Blockbuster By Post really special, is the offer of Unlimited In-Store Movie Exchanges on every rental plan; allowing Blockbuster By Post customers to swap the discs that they rent online for more from their local store - great for picking a film at the last minute!
And with the added benefit of Blockbuster UK's exclusive Top Ticket service, life doesn't have to be like a box of chocolates as Blockbuster By Post customers know what they are going to get next - if they choose any movie or game as a Top Ticket, they can GUARANTEE that they get this sent to them next. Many of these Top Tickets are sent as extra discs on top of their regular rentals.
On top of all this, Blockbuster By Post is more than a service, it's an exclusive club - customers get discounts at the Blockbuster Marketplace should they choose to buy, weekly newsletters, competitions, suggestions and more.
In addition to Blockbuster By Post, in 2008, Blockbuster launched an Online Store at blockbuster.co.uk, since then the store has grown to house nearly 50,000 movies and games to buy online for home delivery or for collection in a Blockbuster store with Click & Collect.
Blockbuster UK introduced its first iPhone app with integrated Click & Collect in 2010 and an in-store and online loyalty scheme in 2012 called 'VIP GAMER'.

Introduced in 2011, the Blockbuster Marketplace is a self contained website focusing on preowned movies and games to buy online. The movies and games are traded in from customers in Blockbuster UK stores and posted to customers.
The website's slogan is 'Pay Less. Get More' and customers can save up to 50% when buying via the Blockbuster Marketplace compared to buying new.
The Blockbuster Marketplace is operated as a different brand from the rest of the Blockbuster estate and has a distinct customer base compared to the rest of Blockbuster UK.
Introduced in 2012, the BLOCKBUSTER® Magazine is the newest addition to the Blockbuster online portfolio. A digital magazine available for iPad, Android and Kindle devices, the magazine has received both critical and public acclaim for its mix of editorial, interactive content and humour.
Jam packed with interviews, features, trailers and a complete calendar of new movies and game releases, the BLOCKBUSTER® Magazine is FREE to download and has become an important extension of the Blockbuster experience.
Blockbuster are delighted to help Starlight brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting their wishes and by entertaining them while they are in hospital.
With a community of around 200,000 in the UK, BlockbusterUK offers Blockbuster customers the ultimate Blockbuster movie and game experience.
