Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE: BBI and BBI.B) was founded in Dallas, Texas in 1985 and is a leading global provider of in-home rental, retail movie and game entertainment.

BLOCKBUSTER IN THE UK:

The first Blockbuster store in the UK opened in March 1989 (Walworth Road, London) and the UK is now the largest Blockbuster business outside the US, with around 700 stores and about 4.2 million member accounts.

Blockbuster's goal is to be a complete source for movies and the company is continually looking for ways to offer its customers more value, choice and convenience. To this end, in September 2002, Blockbuster UK introduced its online DVD rental service. This service has grown and now allows customers to have access to almost every DVD available in the UK.

Blockbuster.co.uk provides the latest releases and also gives its customers much more choice from classic titles, foreign films, music DVDs, interactive game DVDs, language DVDs and popular TV series.

Blockbuster UK is no longer just a video rental store. Rental is the core strength of the business, but there are also retail propositions for movies, games, drinks and confectionery.

Trade-In is something that really sets Blockbuster UK stores apart from other competitors. Customers can trade-in movies and games for cash or credit on their membership accounts. Trade-In is perfect for those spring cleaning moments when refining your DVD collection, or even just when you need a little extra cash!

Blockbuster UK also sells movies and games, both new and pre-owned titles, meaning that again you can often find more than the latest releases and maybe even some hidden treasures.

For many people a 'Great Night In' is sitting down with friends and family to enjoy a movie and indulge themselves with a choice of their favourite chocolates, snacks or ice cream treats. Launched in 2001, Blockbuster.co.uk is the destination of choice for movie fans in the UK and provides visitors with an effortless and convenient way to rent DVDs from the comfort of their own home.

Blockbuster.co.uk has a range of Unlimited DVD Rental packages offering 1, 3 or 5 disc packages that start at just £9.99 per month. There are no due dates and the DVDs are delivered straight to their door.

Blockbuster.co.uk sends out more discs per customer, and has the fastest turnaround times of any online DVD rental service in the UK*. In March 2006, Web User magazine awarded Blockbuster.co.uk the Gold Standard Award for its Unlimited DVD Rental Service - stating that Blockbuster.co.uk had -

In November 2004, Blockbuster.co.uk recruited respected newspaper columnist Marshall Julius and gave him his own weekly column featured on the site. 'Marshall's View' has become a must-visit area for many of the site's members and features everything from a round-up of the latest and greatest new releases to star profiles, reviews, news and even suggestions, to help our visitors to fully enjoy the Blockbuster rental experience.

As in all of our Blockbuster stores, in May 2005 Blockbuster.co.uk introduced a great range of Ex-Rental DVDs to the web site, priced from just £4.50 including postage and packaging and a 30 day money-back guarantee.

In 2006, Blockbuster.co.uk introduced celebrity picks and celebrity blogs for the first time to the site. Blockbuster.co.uk invited well-known British names such as TV legend Martin Clunes and England International superstar John Barnes , to tell visitors about their favourite movies and TV series. In addition to the celebrity features, the site boasts a collection of celebrity interviews ranging from former Doctor Who and Little Britain extraordinaire Tom Baker and Escape to Victory star John Wark, to interviews with Hollywood Heavyweights Brad Pitt and Nicolas Cage.
