The Nightmare Before Christmas
A stop-motion animated musical from the mind of Tim Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a film I will never get tired of watching.
I loved it the first time I saw it, way back in '96, and since I became a dad I've seen it 50 times or more with my girls. As far as I'm concerned, it's the perfect family film, with strangely beautiful visuals, an enthusiastic voice cast, and a full slate of memorable songs, courtesy of the great Danny Elfman, from spooky anthem This is Halloween to the blissful What's This? Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King!

Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins, played by Julie Andrews, is an assertive nanny who is hired to sort out a banker's troublesome children.
With the help of magic, she manages to help the children explore the world around them, however not without the disapproval of their father. I remember wishing that I had a nanny like Mary Poppins, especially when it came to tidying my room! My all time favourite scene has to be the Chimney Sweepers with Dick Van-Dyke dancing on the roof tops. To sum it up in one word - it is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!

It's A Wonderful Life
|
This heart-warming tale from director Frank Capra tells the story of the dark and bittersweet world of George Bailey (James Stewart), who's hopes and dreams are continually dashed as he battles with life's difficulties and disappointments.
On Christmas Eve we see George Bailey (James Stewart) left broken & suicide over the impending scandal over the misplacement of $8000 from his buildings & loans business. Encouraged by fanciful trainee-angel named Clarence (Henry Travers) George is taken on a journey through life, where he gets an insight into the nightmarish lives of family & friends if he had not been born. George finally recognises what a rich and wonderful life he really has had and returns with a new faith and confidence.

It's A Wonderful Life
A piece of festive tradition in its own right, this film sums up the true meaning of Christmas spirit perfectly. It's a gloriously uplifting tale of the greatness of the common man.
James Stewart is perfect as George Bailey - a man who feels a deep sense of under-achievement. The story indulges the eternal fantasy of 'what if.?' by showing George what a difference he has made in his 'crummy' life, and why it is, indeed, a Wonderful Life after all.
Guaranteed to have you sobbing tears of joy at the end - keep the tissues handy!
