 | | Based on a true story.
Written and directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, MONSTER is a powerful drama that burrows beneath the tabloid headlines to unearth the human story behind America's first female serial killer.
Amidst the horror, MONSTER unearths an unlikely love story between two misfits. Aileen Wuornos (Theron), the victim of a tragic, abusive upbringing, is a drifter and a prostitute. Selby Wall (Ricci) is a young woman sent by her parents to live with an aunt in Florida to 'cure' her homosexuality. The women are outcasts but the love they both feel provides meaning to their lives.
Unable to find a legitimate job, and desperate to continue her relationship with Selby, Wuornes continues to work the streets as a prostitute.
When one of her clients' turns violent, Wuornes shoots the man in self-defence but this becomes just the first in a tragic string of killings.
